Catch up

Weather forcasts were collected, scanned and considered in quantity whilst in Nazare...eventually the comittee decided to sail at 0300 on Monday.

Sunday morning we were meet by fik fog on awakening, the word from the Marina man was that it extened out to sea for at least 34 miles and all down the coast to Lisbon and last time this happended it stayed for 5 days...

Mick and Julian disappeared in to the murk....30 minutes later a text from them said it was clear in town..

Monday 0245 - all up ready to go, no fog. Motored out and up the coast, the wind came up with the sun and we were soon fetching along at 7 knots, of course it didn't last, it became 5 knots then 3, we went off course to keep sailing, we gave in and used the iron sail. The day turned into a sunny tanning fest as bodies emerged that really shouldn't, meals were enjoyed (thanks to Martin and Roger) and a small glass of wine was embibed.

Monday night/Tuesday morning - no dramas just good progress, glorius sunsets and rises, about 0600 passed the border from Portugal into Spain, Roger was given the epic reward of taking down the Portugeuse coutesy flag and raising the spanish one.

A couple of hours later we turned into the Ria to Bayona and celebrated the border crossing with a champagne breakfast.

Bayona and beyond

On arrival went to the fuel berth to top up and then proceeded to the transit berth, the weather forcast shows that stopping too long does not make sense. so all ashore for a tapas lunch and a cheery beery.

Sailed at 1500, taking the inside (pretty) route between the islands and continuing Northwards. Midnight saw us passsing Finisterre, flat calm, no wind and almost no swell!! jumping fish and dolphins.

Breakfast Wednesday morning was followed by sailing attempt (3 minutes) not enough wind so converted to a fishing hour...
